The Perspective

Yell, scream and shout. Through music you can subtlety let your emotions out. I have always admired a musician who through sound could create an uplifting tempo across the room, and in the next breath calm the crowd to a mellow relaxed groove.

The trumpet is the loudest and highest pitched member of the brass family often taking the lead voice in an ensemble. It dates back to around 3000 B.C. and evidence of early trumpet instruments has been found on virtually every continent.

Horns/trumpets were known in Ancient Egypt since its very early times. Generally, trumpets in Ancient Egypt always appeared in pairs.

The trumpet is also one of the original instruments in Jazz – playing a prominent role throughout its history. Borrowing from the marching band instrumentation, it was the lead instrument in bands from the 1890s to 1930s that also included cornet, clarinet, trombone, banjo, bass, tuba, drums and occasionally the saxophone which later rose to prominence during the big band and swing eras.

It’s interesting to note that some of Jazz’s most important artists have been trumpeters. In particular, Louis Armstrong (1901-1971) and Miles Davis (1926-1991) are arguably two of the most significant musicians of the 20th century. Their talents and subsequent affects on music were multi-dimensional. They were both highly respected trumpet virtuosos who had defining roles as composers and in the development of major Jazz styles due in part to their careers lasting more than five decades.
